In a thrilling encounter at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on 2 August, India and Sri Lanka ended up with a tied score in the first ODI. Chasing a target of 231 runs, India managed to level the score but lost all their wickets, resulting in no Super Over to decide the match.Rohit Sharma was the standout performer for India, scoring a brisk 58 off 47 balls. Axar Patel and KL Rahul chipped in with valuable contributions of 33 and 31 runs respectively. However, the rest of the Indian batting lineup struggled against the disciplined Sri Lankan bowlers.

Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga and Charith Asalanka were the pick of the bowlers, each claiming three wickets. Dunith Wellalage added two wickets to his tally, while Asitha Fernando and Akila Dananjaya took one wicket each.

The match began with Sri Lanka winning the toss and opting to bat first. They posted a total of 230 for 8 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Dunith Wellalage played a crucial unbeaten knock of 67 off 65 balls, supported by Prathum Nissanka’s 56 off 75 balls. However, other Sri Lankan batsmen failed to make significant contributions, with none scoring more than 25 runs.

For India, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel were effective with the ball, each taking two wickets. Mohammed Siraj, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, and Washington Sundar picked up one wicket apiece.

Sri Lankan skipper Charith Asalanka, who won the toss, chose to bat first, believing it to be a good surface. Indian captain Rohit Sharma was comfortable with the decision to chase.

India had previously dominated the T20I series, winning all three matches, and will be looking to carry that momentum into the remaining ODIs. The second ODI will be played at the same venue in Colombo on Sunday, with both teams eager to secure a win in the series.
